Teach it your tables first

The difference between a booking form and a booking system is the floor plan. List each table with its size and the tables it can join, then say how long each party size sits. With that, the system offers only times it can really seat, and a party of eight is placed where two four-tops join instead of being squeezed in by hope.

Tell guests their table time

Showing the seating time at booking, such as two hours for four, is what makes a second sitting possible on Fridays and Saturdays. Most guests accept a set slot if they know upfront. The confirmation can say it again, along with your cancellation policy and how to change the booking.

The host's view on the night

Ask for a service screen listing tonight's bookings by time with party size, table, notes and status: booked, arrived, seated, left. Allergy notes should be clear on that screen and on the kitchen's list. Walk-ins and phone bookings are added in the same place so everyone works from one list.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not put every cover online; keep a share for walk-ins and regulars. Do not let large groups book without a deposit on your busiest nights. And do not forget to block holiday closures and private hire evenings ahead of time, or the system will happily sell tables you do not have.
