Build a Quote, Order and Job Tracking App for Your 3D Printing Service
Mythex builds the software a print farm actually runs on: a site that takes STL and STEP uploads, a quote calculator fed by your slicer's time and weight estimates, and a job board from quoted to shipped. You describe it in chat, check it in a live preview, and publish it with a real database behind it.
What a 3D printing service needs from its software
Files arrive by email with no material, no tolerance and sometimes no units. Someone opens each one in the slicer, notes the hours and grams, then rebuilds a price in a calculator, and the next person quoting the same part gets a different number. Meanwhile the farm runs overnight, and nobody can say at a glance which job is on which printer or which spool it started on. What helps is boring and specific: one place where the file, the assumed settings and the price live together, a status for every job, and a record of what was printed so a reorder six months later comes out the same.
- File upload that keeps STL, STEP and 3MF files attached to the enquiry
- Quotes built from slicer time, material weight, machine rate and post-processing
- A job status per part: quoted, approved, printing, post-processing, shipped
- Print settings saved per job so reorders match the original
- Spool and resin stock tracked in grams and bottles
- Failure logging per printer and material
What you can build for 3d printing services
A quote calculator that starts from the slicer numbers
Store an hourly rate for each printer type and a price per gram for each material. You type in the slicer's estimated hours and grams, pick post-processing like support removal, sanding or vapour smoothing, and the quote works itself out with quantity breaks for batches. The quote records the layer height, infill and orientation you assumed, so a customer who later asks why the part is weak can see what was agreed.
Build a quote app for my 3D printing service. I enter print hours and grams from the slicer, choose a printer type and material, and it calculates price from my machine rate per hour and price per gram, plus post-processing and a minimum order charge. Add quantity breaks and save layer height, infill and orientation on each quote.
A site that teaches customers to send printable files
List each technology you run, FDM, resin, maybe SLS through a partner, with the materials and what they suit: PLA for concept models, PETG for functional brackets, ABS or ASA for heat, tough resin for snap fits. Add a design guide with minimum wall thickness and overhang limits, separate turnaround times for prototypes and batches, and an upload form that saves the model with the enquiry.
Make a website for a 3D printing service with pages for FDM and resin printing, a materials table showing what each material is good for, a design-for-printing guide with wall thickness and overhang rules, a gallery of real parts labelled by material and finish, and an enquiry form that accepts STL and STEP uploads and saves them to the database.
A customer portal for engineers who reorder
Engineering and product customers log in, upload a new revision of a part, and watch its status move through printing and finishing. Each revision stays as a version with a note on what changed. Photos of the finished part can be posted for approval before it ships, and any past job can be reordered with one click using the same file and settings.
Build a client portal for my 3D printing business. Customers log in, upload part files, see each job's status, keep every file revision with change notes, approve photos of finished parts before shipping, and reorder a past job with the same material and print settings. Staff see all jobs.
Filament and resin stock you can trust before a long print
Track each spool by material, colour and remaining grams, and each resin bottle by type and the date it was opened. Jobs deduct their estimated material from the spool they ran on. Wear parts like nozzles, build plates and FEP films get reorder levels, and hygroscopic materials such as nylon and TPU record when they were last dried.
Make an inventory app for a print farm. Track filament spools by material, colour and grams left, resin bottles by type and opened date, and wear parts like nozzles and FEP films with reorder levels. When a job is marked printed, deduct its grams from the chosen spool. Flag nylon and TPU spools not dried in the last week.
A farm dashboard that shows if your quotes are too low
Log each print with its printer, material, estimated hours and actual hours, and whether it succeeded. The dashboard charts utilisation per machine, failure rate by printer and material, and the gap between slicer estimates and real run time. If jobs keep running fifteen percent long, that is your quote adjustment.
Build a dashboard for my 3D printing service showing utilisation per printer, failed prints by printer and material, revenue by customer type, and estimated versus actual print time per job, with a monthly trend.
A small shop for stock prints and spares
Sell your own designs, desk organisers, replacement knobs, tabletop terrain, with material and colour options that change the price. Made-to-order items show their production time on the product page. Only list models you designed or have a licence to sell; many files on sharing sites forbid commercial printing.
Create an online store for my 3D printed products with options for material and colour that change the price, a production time on made-to-order items, and a section for filament spares. Payments go through my own payment provider account.
From inbox and slicer to one job record
Start with the job list, not the shop. Build an enquiry form with an upload field, a quote screen and a status board, then move your open jobs into it. Once every job carries its file, quote and settings, the rest follows: the portal is that same data shown to the customer, and the dashboard is that same data counted. Set a minimum order charge on day one; a single small bracket still costs you file checks, slicing, bed prep and removal.
- Day one: upload form, quote calculator, job status board
- Week two: spool tracking and a failed-print log
- Later: customer logins and reorders
Separate pages for engineers and hobbyists
An engineer wants tolerances, materials with heat resistance, and a lead time in days. A cosplayer or miniature painter wants surface detail, resin finish and photos. One page cannot speak to both. Mythex can build a rapid prototyping landing page and a hobby printing page from the same project, each with its own upload form, so you can see which audience sends more work.
Questions
Can customers upload STL files through my website?
Yes. Ask for an upload field on the enquiry form and Mythex stores each file in your project's file storage, linked to the enquiry in the database. You open the model straight from the admin page when you reply.
Can it calculate a 3D printing quote automatically?
It calculates from the numbers you give it. You enter the slicer's estimated hours and grams, and the app applies your machine rate, material price and extras. It does not slice the model itself.
Can I take payment for prints online?
Yes, by connecting a payment provider under your own business account. Mythex builds the checkout or a pay-this-quote link that uses it.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You describe the app in plain language and change it by chatting. The code editor is there if you want it, read-only on Free and editable on Pro.
Is it free to build?
The Free plan needs no credit card and gives daily credits, enough to build and publish a first version. Pro is $25/month and adds code editing, export, GitHub and a custom domain.
