A Farrier's Round, Off the Diary and Into an App You Describe
With Mythex a farrier can build the app the diary never was: every horse with its shoe size and next due date, bookings grouped yard by yard in driving order, and one monthly bill for each livery yard. You describe your round in plain words, try it in a live preview, and publish it to open on your phone between horses.
What a farrier needs between yards
The job is a loop. Each horse comes due every five to eight weeks, and the efficient day is one where all the horses on a yard are done in one visit. Then a lost shoe or a lame horse calls you off route. Bookings come by text while you are under a horse, notes on pads and studs live in your head, and payment arrives by cash, transfer or a yard's monthly settlement. What helps is a list that tells you which horses are due, where they live, what they wear, and who still owes for last time.
- Next-due date per horse from its last visit and usual cycle
- Bookings grouped by yard and day, in driving order
- Shoe size, nail type, pads, studs and remedial notes per horse
- Before-and-after foot photos attached to the horse
- One monthly bill per yard, per-visit bills for private owners
- An emergency queue that does not overwrite the planned round
What you can build for farriers
A booking list that plans the round by yard
Each booking carries a yard, so the day view lists horses yard by yard in the order you drive. Slots differ in length: a trim is quick, a remedial set is not. Lost-shoe and lameness calls land in a separate emergency list you fit in when you can. Before leaving a yard, the app suggests each horse's next date from its cycle and the days you are already there.
Build a booking app for my farrier round. Each horse has a yard and a cycle in weeks. Show a day view grouped by yard in driving order, different slot lengths for trims, full sets and remedial work, a separate emergency list for lost shoes, and suggest the next date for each horse based on its cycle and days I'm already on that yard.
Owner, horse and yard on three linked records
One owner can have three horses on two yards. Store shoe size, shoe type, pads, studs and remedial notes against each horse, with a visit log and photos. When a horse is sold or moves yard, its history goes with it. Record the treating vet against remedial cases so referrals and follow-ups stay in one place.
Make a CRM for a farrier with owners, horses and yards as linked records. Each horse has shoe size, shoe type, pads, studs, remedial notes, the vet, and a visit log with photos. Let me move a horse to a new owner or yard and keep its history.
Yard accounts and per-visit bills
Private owners get a bill per visit with a line for each horse. Livery yards that manage several horses get one monthly invoice that collects every visit. Call-out fees, pads and remedial shoes sit on their own lines, and the yard's balance shows on the day list before you drive there.
Build invoicing for a farrier: one invoice per owner with a line per horse, monthly yard accounts that collect all visits on that yard, separate lines for call-outs, pads and remedial shoes, and the unpaid balance shown on each yard in my day list.
A site that tells owners whether you cover their yard
List the towns and yards on your round so owners nearby can join cheaply and those outside it know before calling. Describe barefoot trims, standard shoeing and remedial work separately, with starting prices if you show them, and explain how lost-shoe emergencies are handled. Put qualifications and the vets you work with on the about page.
Build a website for my farrier business with a list of areas and yards I cover, pages for trims, shoeing and remedial work with starting prices, an emergency lost-shoe policy, my qualifications, and a form for new owners that asks for the yard and each horse's name and current shoeing.
Overdue horses and what each yard earns
See horses past their due date with no booking, horses done per week, income per yard against drive time, and emergency call-outs per month. A one-horse yard forty minutes away can cost more than it pays, and the numbers make a minimum visit charge easy to justify.
Make a dashboard for my farrier round showing horses overdue with no booking, horses shod and trimmed per week, income per yard with my estimated drive time, and emergency call-outs per month.
Apprentice days, van and forge on one rota
When you take on an apprentice, the rota shows who supervises whom, which van and forge go where, college release days, and workshop days spent making or modifying shoes. Routine trims go on apprentice days, remedial cases on quieter ones.
Build a rota for my farriery business with farriers and apprentices, vans as resources that can't be double-booked, workshop days separate from yard days, and apprentice college days blocked out.
What to put in on day one
Start with the yards you visit and the horses on each, with their last visit date and usual cycle. That alone gives you a due list. Add shoe sizes and notes as you go, one yard at a time, rather than trying to enter everything on a wet Sunday. Once the due list matches your diary for a fortnight, start booking from the app and leave the diary in the van.
- Yards with address and access notes
- Horses with last visit and cycle length
- Owners with phone and how they pay
Use it with gloves on
Ask for a phone-first layout with large buttons: mark done, add a photo, book next visit. The published app opens in any phone browser. On Pro it can also become Android and iPhone apps that open your published app, which is handy for an icon on the home screen.
Questions
Can the app tell me which horses are due?
Yes. With a last visit date and a cycle length on each horse, it lists every horse due or overdue, grouped by yard so you can plan the round.
Can owners book online?
They can request a visit with their yard and horses, and you confirm it into your round. Most farriers prefer that to open self-booking, since the day is planned by location.
Can I take card payments on the yard?
Invoices can carry a pay link through a payment provider you connect with your own account. Cash and bank transfer can be marked paid by hand.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You describe what you want in plain words and Mythex builds it. Changes are made by chatting, such as 'add a studs field to each horse'.
How much does it cost?
The Free plan needs no card and gives daily credits, enough to build and publish a working round app. Pro is $25/month and adds code editing, a custom domain and phone apps.
